The Iowa Avenue Grade Separation project provided the separation of a major arterial street with the BNSF mainline tracks within an industrial area of the City.  Iowa Avenue was reconstructed to cross over the tracks, being placed on a 3-span pre-stressed cast-in-place concrete box girder structure, measuring  458 feet in length, and 102 feet wide, supported on steel driven “H” piles.  Mechanically stabilized earth retaining walls were used to narrow the fill footprint of Iowa Avenue.  The reconfiguration of utility facilities and the realignment of several street intersections includes an access road under the bridge to maintain access to business properties.

Southstar provided the Structure’s Representative Bridge Construction Management services which include the following:

  • Bridge Construction coordination with the City of Riverside and BNSF
