Southstar provided structures inspection and public outreach services on the Rosecrans/Marquardt Grade Separation Project in the City of Santa Fe Springs. Metro’s improvement plan includes building an above-grade crossing at Rosecrans/Marquardt Avenues. The crossing was ranked by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in 2016 as the #1 most hazardous grade crossing in California, with 26 incidents, 5 fatalities, and 6 injuries, that consists of over 120 trains and 45,000 vehicles daily crossing. The project benefits include improved safety via elimination of at-grade crossings, better air quality, increase in rail efficiency, reduced vehicle idling time, and allowing a potential fourth track for the High-Speed Rail at the Rosecrans and Marquardt Avenues intersection.
Inspection duties include inspecting foundation work for the bridge (overhead), specifically CIDH construction. Additional scope of work will include spliced precast girders, falsework, precast deck panels, and MSE walls. The project itself is unique in that the railroad has three tracks that are at a 45-degree skewed alignment, creating complexity for the bridge construction. The project is anticipated to be completed in 2025.
